Brisbane… Brass Jam
Do you love playing your Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba, Sousaphone, Sackbutt etc with other people, but just don’t have time to commit to a weekly Brass Band/ Big Band/Concert Band rehearsal?
Wouldn’t it be nice to play once a month in a bar with no responsibilities to rock up each week? Are you tired of going to jams and not being heard or just playing the hits in a 1970’s cover band?
Out of the ashes of going to too many blues jams where the horns are an afterthought, ‘Brisbane. Brass Jam’ was created out of a guy’s desire to play some cool tunes with other brass musicians without the responsibility/time of having to do a weekly rehearsal. Think pop-up brass band with beer.
Note: This isn’t a Blues Jam. Most genres will be explored through the sheet music on offer. If you have a suggestion or some sheet music, bring a few copies along and we can have a geezer. Composers and Arrangers are welcome
Pieces we’ll be having a look at in our first session include:
A pretty tune by Max Richter
Allegretto (Beethoven)
Baby I’ve got you on my mind (Powderfinger)
A banger from Radiohead
Wellerman
Bella Ciao
For Any odd E flat Brass instruments, you unfortunately, will need to do your own transposing. sight-reading skills or an eagerness to play would be helpful. Arrangers/composers are welcome to present their work.
No reeds, no leads, no strings…. just brass, maybe the occasional drummer in the future, and maybe a sneaky beer (or two).
Bring your instrument, Bring a stand if you have one, Bring a lobster or two for the fine beers flowing from the Bearded lady’s taps.
if you can bring a tablet device that can connect to google drive and the internet (some paper copies will be available). First Tuba player through the door gets a free beer!
