Tyger Middleton is a multi-instrumentalist currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music, specializing in Tenor Saxophone, at JMI in Brisbane.
Originally from Newport on Sydney's Northern Beaches, Tyger began playing the saxophone at age 8, receiving early mentorship from his father, accomplished musician and saxophonist Ross Middleton. He also developed his piano skills under the guidance of Andrew Funnell, Roc Koren, and renowned jazz pianist Dave MacRae. Since 2017, Tyger has been an active performer in the Northern Beaches jazz scene, frequently collaborating with prominent local musicians such as James and William (Min) Morrison, and Lachy Hamilton.
After moving to Brisbane in 2021, Tyger quickly gained recognition as an in-demand saxophonist, guided by Josh Hatcher and Graeme Norris. He has since performed regularly with various renowned musicians and groups within Brisbane's vibrant jazz community.
Tyger’s playing combines modern and traditional jazz styles, drawing heavy inspiration from saxophonists like Hank Mobley, Michael Brecker, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Troy Roberts, Stanley Turrentine, and Joe Henderson.
